HF and GPS Links Now Available for FORAX RF-over-Fiber Communications Systems
COLUMBIA, MD. September 10, 2007 . . . Syntonics LLC, based in Columbia, MD, announces two new RF-over-fiber links for the FORAX-RM product line. The HF link module is used with industrial/military High Frequency (HF) radios plus commercial AM/FM and NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) receivers. The Global Positioning System (GPS) link module is used with GPS receivers. These new products — the latest additions to Syntonics’ modular, rack-mounted FORAX-RM communication system — respond to customer demand in several arenas.
The FORAX-RM-HF link transports HF, AM/FM, and NWR signals, depending on the customer’s choice of band-pass filters. The HF link also provides the key-line signal necessary for Single Side Band (SSB) HF transmissions. The standard HF link provides dry contacts for key-line signaling. Optionally, almost any digital standard — such as RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, or Ethernet — can be provided for key-line signaling and High Power Amplifier control.
The FORAX-RM-GPS link transports GPS L1 and L2 signals. The standard product supplies power for active GPS antennas. Antenna power is coupled onto the coaxial cable from the FORAX system and does not require separate wiring.
All FORAX links are engineered to operate over single-mode optical fibers up to 10 km long. Optionally, much longer distances are available by special order. In addition, optional link multiplexing is available to reduce the number of optical fibers used to transport multiple radio signals. FORAX-RM links are “plug-in” hot-swap modules compatible with all FORAX-RM rack-mount chasses.
A prototype FORAX-RM-HF link is available for Government agency evaluation in HF applications. The first FORAX-RM-GPS link will be delivered to a Government customer for addition into their existing FORAX-RM system.
