Syntonics Awarded Air Force Contract to Buy FORAX RF-Over-Fiber Communications System

COLUMBIA, MD. July 28, 2006 … Syntonics LLC has been awarded a firm-fixed price contract by the United States Air Force for the purchase of a FORAX RF-over-Fiber communications system to be used in a command post at Moody AFB. The FORAX system connects military and trunked radios to distant antennas up to 10 km away using optical fibers. FORAX eliminates traditional radio installation constraints, reduces maintenance costs, centralizes equipment, and increases communications security, Although the product was only introduced in 2005, after being developed for USSOCOM during 2003-2005, FORAX systems are already deployed with U.S. and allied special operations forces and is installed in national command centers in the Pentagon.

picSyntonics’ FORAX (Fiber Optic Remote Antenna eXtension) product line uses single-mode optical fibers to provide an all-analog optical link that transports any RF signal with any modulation type over a fiber optic cable supplied by the user. Instead of using heavy, short, power-consuming coaxial cables, one coax cable per radio, FORAX uses a single long, lightweight, and secure fiber optic cable to connect all the radios.

Syntonics designs, develops, and manufactures specialty military RF communications equipment and accessories, notably RF-over-fiber products and innovative antennas. Syntonics’ Quality Management System, registered under ISO9001-2000 since 2002, ensures quality products on time, every time.
