Syntonics Launches FORAX Product Line for Military RF-over-Fiber Communications

COLUMBIA, MD. February 10, 2005 . . . Syntonics LLC, based in Columbia, Md., announced today it has launched its FORAX RF-over-fiber product line. The final order for prototype units was received in December 2004 and the first production order was received earlier this month.

FORAX (Fiber Optic Remote Amplifier Extension) provides a new communications system building block for fixed site and transportable military radio users. The system connects multiple military radios to antennas as far as 10 km away using one lightweight, secure, rugged fiber optic cable. FORAX is currently available in two configurations and Syntonics also develops customer-specific configurations.

Tactical radio users now can move antennas away from the radio operator to achieve good lines of sight and a large separation from potential targets. Instead of carrying several heavy and relatively short coaxial cables, tactical users can carry one long, lightweight, and rugged fiber optic cable. Command centers now can stop wiring unencrypted “red” signals from local control consoles to remote radios. Instead, radios can be collocated with the operator and antennas up to 10 km away can be connected with one secure fiber optic cable carrying encrypted "black" information.

Syntonics designs, develops, and manufactures specialty military RF communications equipment and accessories, notably RF-over-fiber products and innovative antennas. For more information on Syntonics and its products, please see the company's website at
